Addis International Film Festival (AIFF) is an annual film festival created by Initiative Africa (IA) in 2007 and held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The festival seeks to use the power of film to support create awareness on social issues and showcase the country’s and the continent’s young documentary filmmaker and their work.
This year, the 16th edition of AIFF is organized from May 25 to 29, 2022, in Addis Ababa. The five-day documentary festival showcases a carefully curated selection of more than 30 films from around the world created by seasoned and emerging filmmakers. The films address a wide range of themes such as Migration, Women Empowerment, Youth, Peace, Health, Children's rights, and much more. AIFF also works to foster and inspire youth filmmakers and enthusiasts through engaging them in workshops.

The festival serves as a learning platform for the audience, with the aim to shed light and bring focus to critical issues, in addition to also sharing the experiences of people from different parts of the world. Through raising awareness and challenging conventional perspectives, the festival hopes to be contributing to the creation of a future generation that is more critical and inquisitive. This year’s 15th edition of AIFF focuses on a range of issues such as:
• Peace and sustainability,
• Human rights issues,
• Fighting against poverty,
• Gender and violence,
• Health awareness,
• Culture and history,
• Environmental issues.

The festival expects to see men and women of all ages and backgrounds aware of complex and challenging issues facing both the Ethiopian people and global communities as well as gain insight into new cultures.
