HRFN Fund strengthens cooperation

The Human Rights Film Network (HRFN) is pleased to announce that it has provided two festival cooperation grants, to strengthen joint programs of member festivals. One grant has been provided to launch cooperation between the Papua New Guinea Human Rights Film Festival and the Australia Human Rights Arts and Films Festival. The other grant has been awarded to the Naples Human Rights Film Festival in order to strengthen its cooperation with the Buenos Aires DerHumALC Festival. For its 3rd edition, the Papua New Guinea Human Rights Film Festival, scheduled in November 2012, will start collaborating with the Australia Human Rights Arts and Films Festival (HRAFF), which takes place for eleven days in Melbourne, and then three weeks across Australia. As the Papua New Guinea Human Rights Film Festival is relatively new, there is still much to learn from HRAFF’s experience. At the same time, the Australian festival can learn much from the first two editions of the Papua New Guinean festival.Since a few years, the association Cinema and Rights (Naples, Italy) works together with the Instituto Multimedia DerHumALC (Buenos Aires, Argentina). In November 2012, the 5th edition of the Naples Human Rights Film Festival will include a section called "Finestra su Buenos Aires", in which the award winners of the Festival Internacional de Cine de Derechos Humanos will be presented. The festival will also provide opportunities to discuss the situation of cinema, public information and civil rights in Argentina.Cooperation among network members has been quite significant since the network was founded. The new HRFN Cooperation Fund has been launched to promote even stronger collaboration and sharing of experiences. Through provision of these grants, the HRFN officially endorses and financially supports these cooperative programs. The grant will help these festivals cover the expenses for traveling, subtitling their joint film programmes and for sharing films. Completed joint programs will be briefly introduced during the annual meeting of the HRFN. A maximum of four small grants can be provided each year to cover part of the costs of the joint programs.
