this human world
this human world
this human world was founded in 2008 in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights as Austria´s first human rights film festival of its kind. As a member of the international Human Rights Film Network (HFRN), this human world followed the example of other successful, internationally established festivals (Prague, Geneva, New York, London, etc.).
Scheduled to coincide with the 10th of December, Human Rights Day, this human world presents a week of brand new feature films, documentaries and short films set around contemporary themes. The core of our work, however, is not only the compilation of a high-carat film program, which raises social awareness of human rights issues outside the framework of mainstream film, but also endeavours to, through the consolidation of civil society organisations and the cooperation of numerous NGOs, build an annual platform for dialogue.
The selection of films takes place in collaboration with experts, curators, NGOs and partner festivals. The themes are expertly proofed and the films accompanied by panels, audience discussions and lectures. Offshoots of the program, such as exhibitions, performances, concerts and readings take place at different locations around Vienna. In this way over 400 national and international film productions found, the majority of them Austrian premieres, found their way to an interested and excited audience.
Hereby, this human world builds a broader lobby in Austria for independent filmmaking around socio-critical themes of our time and becomes a driving force in this filmmaking. this human world is also a mediator for artistic projects centred around the theme of human rights, not only with the example of cinema but also in other urban public spaces.
